Bid evaluation begins for Naifaru water & sewerage project

A contractor will be assigned to the project to establish a water and sewerage network in Naifaru Island of Lhaviyani Atoll within the next two months, the Ministry of Environment and Energy has said.

Speaking to PSM News, Abdulla Matheen, State Minister for Environment and Energy, said they are now evaluating bids for the project, which is funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). But he did not mention the cost of the project.

Naifaru Island has a population of 5700 people.

Water and sewerage systems will be established in 5 islands this year with funding from IDB, the Ministry said.  The Government plans to establish water and sewerage systems in 88 islands, and nearly MVR800 million is allocated in the state budget for these projects, it added.
