Maldives-Malaysia begins talk over double tax avoidance agreement

Maldives and Malaysia has begun work on formulating a double tax avoidance agreement.

The first round of the talks initiated by the Maldivian government has already begun in Malaysia, according to Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

A Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), also referred to as a Tax Treaty, is a bilateral economic agreement between two nations that aims to avoid or eliminate double taxation of the same income in two countries.

The Undersecretary at the Tax Division of the Malaysian Ministry of Finance, Dato Khadheeja Abdullah is leading the Malaysian delegation in the talks. The Maldivian delegation is being led by the Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation of MIRA, Hassan Zareer.
