Education Minister speaks on regional implementation of SDG-4

Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham has spoken as a panelist on strengthening regional support for implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4; ensuring inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning.

The panel discussion was held as part of Third Meeting of the SDG-Education, Steering Committee held in New York. During her remarks at the panel, Minister emphasized that foundation stage supports development of children's coordination skills, psychomotor skills as well as their aptitudes.

The penal discussion focused on national and regional perspectives on implementation of SDG4-Education before 2030. The panel will provide critical insights on implementation of SDG4-Education 2030 in a selection of national and regional contexts.

The session examined the role of regional organizations as policy peer learning mechanisms to enhance effective implementation of SDG4-Education 2030 targets and commitments, and in some cases, regional monitoring. The objective of the session was to endorse a set of proposed recommendations for improved implementation in 2018 and 2019.

The recommendations are based on a survey undertaken and identify both successes and challenges in the implementation of SDG4 targets and commitments since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda. Third Meeting of the SDG-Education, Steering Committee held in New York was held from 29th till 30th of June.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the High Level SDG Action Event on Education held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on the 28th of June.
