Maldives and Pakistan to sign a trade partnership MoU

Ambassador of Pakistan to Maldives (Retired) Vice Admiral Syed Khawar Ali Shah has said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between Ministry of Economic Development of Maldives and the Embassy of Pakistan to enrich the trade and business partnership between both countries.

Speaking on "Talk Maldives" TV programme aired on PSM News, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Maldives (Retired) Vice Admiral Syed Khawar Ali Shah highlighted the strong collaboration of both countries in the education and the health sector. He highlighted the efforts of both nations to strengthen the trade ties between both countries such as the formation of the Pakistan Maldives Business Council. He revealed that under the Pakistan-Maldives Business Council a MoU is to be signed between the Economic Ministry of Maldives and the Pakistan Embassy to enrich the trade and business partnership between both countries.

Statistics shows that consumer goods, food products, textile and clothing products are some of the products imported from Pakistan to Maldives. The current trade worth between Maldives and Pakistan stands at USD 7 million. The Ambassador expressed that with the establishment of the agreement of the new principles of the MoU the worth of the trade tie between the nations its worth is bound to rise up to USD 30 to 40 million.

In the closing statement Ambassador highlighted the efforts made by the current government in the development of the country, such as the; China-Maldives Friendship Bridge and the newly laid extended runway at Velana International Airport. He expressed that Pakistan would stay intact in assisting Maldives in further development of Maldives in all sectors.
