Constitutional framework prioritize political interest: Azima

Minister for Legal Affairs at the President's Office, Aishath Azima Shakoor has stated that the constitutional framework of the country has been drafted in a way to prioritize political interests rather than national interests. The Legal Affairs Minister made the remarks while speaking on a TV programme aired on PSM News.

Referring to the comments made by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom during his Independence Day address, stating that development is hindered due to the constitution allowing political interests over national interests, Azima said that there are individuals who are attempting to hinder developmental efforts of the President.

She expressed concern citing that the constitutional framework is being manipulated towards ensuring personal interests of some opposition politicians.
