Maldives is an exemplary country in the United Nations

Addressing the event to mark the 72nd United Nations Day, the organisation's Resident Coordinator to Maldives Shoko Noda shed light on the history of United Nations and explained how it came to existence.

In addition, the Resident Coordinator highlighted the major contributions of the Asian nations. In this regard, the United Nations Representative said Maldives is a leading nation which has always stayed at the front line for fighting the rights for small island nations.

Addressing the event, Foreign Secretary of Maldives Ahmed Sareer stated that United Nations has always remained as a reliable and consistent supporter and thanked the organisation for the support in all fields. In addition, the Foreign Secretary highlighted the efforts of Maldives in attaining a non-permanent seat in United Nations Security Council and assured that Maldives would remain committed in voicing the ideas and concerns of small island nations.

The Embassies in Maldives portrayed culture and tradition of those countries at the UN Day 2017 Maldives Public Event held at National Art Gallery. The countries include Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China,Saudi Arabia and Japan. In addition, stalls were established by the United Nations and Foreign Ministry of Maldives.

In 1948, the United Nations General Assembly declared October 24 as the anniversary of the Charter of the United Nations, as which shall be devoted to making known to the people of the world the aims and achievements of the United Nations and to gaining their support for its work.
