Maldives to unite with Arab nations to counter extremism

Minister of Defense and National Security Adam Shareef Umar has stated that Maldives would unite with Arab nations to solidify the nation's efforts of countering acts of extremism.

Speaking with media before departing to a ministerial meeting on countering terrorism held in the Saudi capital Riyadh, Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar stated that this meeting would include discussions on efforts by Arab nations in countering acts of terrorism and violent extremism.

In addition, the Defense Minister stated that Maldives would present its national policies in countering acts of terrorism at this ministerial meeting and would seek partnership with other countries in its efforts to counter terrorism.

Current President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom established the national counter terrorism centre on February 5, 2016 to eliminate all acts and thoughts of terrorism and extremism in Maldives.
