Benefits of the discussions with EU wouldbe seen within this year

Ambassador of Maldives to European Union Ahmed Shiaan has stated that benefits of the discussions held with the visiting European Union high-level delegation would be seen within this year.

In exclusive interview with PSM News, Ambassador of Maldives to European Union Ahmed Shiaan stated that the delegation briefed on the high scope of business opportunities in the European market. In this regard Ambassador Shiaan said the discussions focused on minimising the challenges faced by Maldivain businesses and students attaining higher education in European countries.

The visiting high-level delegation from the European Union, led by Deputy Managing Director for Asia Department of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Paola Pampaloni called on Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee and the Minister of Gender and Family Zeneesha Shaheedh Zakee.

At the meeting held with the Foreign Minister, discussions were held on ways of further enhancing cooperation with the Maldives and the European Union on various sectors. The discussions were also focused on key thematic areas such as countering terrorism and violent extremism, climate change, environmental protection, and strengthening regional cooperation, as well as other important issues of mutual interest.

The visiting high-level delegation from the European Union is also expected to have separate meetings with Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar and the Attorney General Mohamed Anil. In addition, the delegation has also scheduled to hold meetings with the key leaders of the political parties in Maldives.
