Maldives Customs Service has revealed the value of exports and imports increased by 6% and 17% respectively in January 2018, compared to the same month of last year.
Goods worth more than USD 245.9 million were imported during January 2018, whereas the figure was recorded at USD 207 million in January 2017, according to statistics. Customs stated that 20% of the total goods imported were from UAE, which is the top imported country
Furthermore, statistics revealed the goods exported during January 2018 was recorded at USD 30.7 million, which is an increase of 6% compared to the same month in 2017. Among major exporting countries, Thailand was recorded as highest with 41% of the total exports in January 2018.
The total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines in January 2018 showed an increase of 23% compared to the same month of last year. A total of USD 17.9 million was collected through import duty and fees last month.
