Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham, in the academic new year address, assured students will be provided with better education with state-of-the-art technological facilities. The Maldivian Education Minister said the latest technological facilities will be provided to make the schools more technology-friendly to meet the standards of the globalising world.
While Education Ministry has inaugurated virtual teaching services in 9 schools this year, the Ministry has successfully received the first two cargo shipments of over 10,000 tablets to Maldives in its efforts to digitalise the sector. The tablets were purchased under the effort of the government to provide tablets to all students from grades 1 to 12, according to the Ministry.
The government contracted Maxcom Private Limited to buy 70,000 tablets. The project, funded from the state budget, would cost over USD 8.9 million, according to Education Ministry.
The tablets would be purchased in multiple shipments and would be distributed to schools across the Maldives, Minister of State for Education Ahmed Shafeeu revealed in an exclusive interview with PSM News. The State Minister revealed the students can only access educational websites from the tablets.
