President sends message of sympathy to Russian President

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to President of Russia Vladimir Putin, following the fire in a shopping mall in Kemerovo.

In his message, President Yameen said he was deeply saddened to hear the news of the tragic fire in a shopping mall in Kemerovo, causing the loss of innocent lives, injury to many and major damage to property and infrastructure.

“At this time of national grief, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in conveying our profound sympathies to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of Russia. I wish for swift and successful recovery efforts. Please also convey, Excellency, my sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families,” the message said.

Furthermore, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has also sent condolences to Russia following the tragic fire incident in Kemerovo shopping mall.

The Minister expressed sadness over the loss of lives and injury to many in the incident, in a tweet posted. He extended deepest condolences to the government and people of Russia including the families of the victims on behalf of the Maldivian government and the people.

Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia said at least 53 people have been killed in a fire in the shopping mall in the Siberian city of Kemerovo.
