Maldives Customs says imports increases by 26% in February

Maldives Customs Service has revealed imports increased by 26% in February 2018, compared to the same month of last year.

Goods worth more than USD 200 million were imported during February 2017, whereas the figure was recorded at USD 245.8 million last month, according to the monthly statistics. Customs Service ranked Singapore as the top importing country, contributing 19% of the total imports to Maldives in February 2018.

Moreover, Maldives Customs revealed the value of goods exported during last February decreased by 20% compared to February 2017. Among major exporting countries, Thailand was ranked as the top exporting country with 50% of the total exported from Maldives in February 2018.

The total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during February 2018 decreased by 20% compared to that of February 2017. Maldives Customs collected a total of USD 16.6 million as import duty and other fees last month.
