Ministry of Education has revealed WiFi connections have been established in all educational institutions in its effort to digitalise the education sector.
The Ministry said currently work is underway to test the WiFi connections set up in schools. The work of establishing the WiFi network is conducted in collaboration with the national telecommunication partner, Dhiraagu.
Minister of State for Education, Ahmed Shafeeu said the Ministry has now acquired and brought some of the tablets to be distributed to schools as part of the digitalising project. He said the Ministry will begin distributing the tablets to school this month. The Ministry said schools would begin using the tablets by the beginning of the 2nd academic term. Training programmes have been conducted for teachers to initiate the process, according to the Ministry.
The government allocated over USD 10 million in the state budget for the digitalisation project of the education sector. More than 70,000 Huawei brand tablets would be utilised by teachers and students under the project.
