Former Vice President Adeeb instructed to pay USD 4.8 million to the State

Ministry of Finance and Treasury has sent a notice to former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor to pay over USD 4.8 million to the state.
The notice was sent to Adeeb on March 28, on the basis of a report released by Anti-corruption Commission of Maldives, according to Finance Ministry. The report said the former Vice President of Maldives had illegally terminated the ownership of Nasandhura Palace Hotel to Galaxy Enterprise Maldives Private Limited in 2010. In addition, the report noted Ahmed Adeeb had illegally utilising his powers as Minister of Tourism in illegally leasing right to hold the land to NPH Investments Private Limited for a period of 50 years.
In the notice sent, Finance Ministry instructed Adeeb to make the payment to the state within 7 days and warned of legal action if the payment was not made within the given time period.
