STO reduces staple food prices

State Trading Organisation (STO) has decided to reduce staple food prices.
Staple food prices will be reduced from April 5, Managing Director of STO Ahmed Shaheer said at a press conference held to announce the decision of the government. He revealed a sugar kilo can be purchased for MVR 4.00, a flour kilo for MVR 2.98 and a rice kilo for MVR 3.98, with the changes brought to prices of staple food prices.
Since October 2016, a kilo of rice was sold for MVR 6.76 and a kilo of flour for MVR 5.26 while a kilo of sugar was purchased for MVR 6.80. Noting that authorities received various concerns of the citizens, following the hike in 2016, Managing Director of STO extended gratitude towards President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for deciding on the reduction of staple food prices.
