Regulation in handling of weapons banned in Maldives comes into effect

The regulation in handling of weapons banned in Maldives formulated by Ministry of Defence and National Security has come into effect. The regulation was formulated for the handling of weapons used for safety on international ships which pass through Maldivian waters, said the Defence Ministry.
Rifles and handguns of less than 10mm caliber, shot guns of less than 16 gauges can be brought into Maldives, according to the regulation. The regulation strictly notes any other weapons will be confiscated by the Defence Ministry.
Furthermore, Defence Ministry has urged to seek necessary permissions for any vessels with banned weapons before entering Maldivian waters.
The regulation was formulated as part of the necessary measures taken by Defence Ministry to enhance the security and sovereignty of the country.
