PPM assures to uphold principles of Islam in Maldives

Progressive Party of Maldives has assured to uphold the principles of Islam in Maldives.
Condemning the statement of European Union Electoral Follow-up Mission (EFM), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) noted multiple religions will not be allowed in Maldives. Highlighting that even though the European Union recommended citizenship of Maldives be given to people not following Islam, the ruling party emphasised the government will not allow it.
The party will stand up against any individual working to introduce other religions in the country, deputy leader of PPM Abdul Raheem Abdulla said in a press conference. The deputy leader expressed concern over the statement, noting individuals and parties who want to eliminate Islam in Maldives are clear now. The mastermind behind introducing other regions in Maldives is former President Mohamed Nasheed and his actions resemble individuals who tried to destroy the country in past, added Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
The opposition must take the responsibility of the EFM statement, calling for reform of provisions in the constitution of Maldives, leader of PPM parliamentary group Ahmed Nihan said speaking at the press conference.
Meanwhile, Spokesman of PPM Ali Arif said actions of international stakeholders in the name of democracy and independence are supported by opposition which resulted in such a statement.
Furthermore, every individual must work to uphold the religion and sovereignty of the nation and assured the ruling party will unite to uphold the principles of Islam in Maldives, according to Secretary General of PPM Abdulla Khaleel.
