Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Asim has arrived in New York to attend the High Level Meeting on Peacekeeping and Sustaining Peace, scheduled to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
During the visit, in addition to speaking at the High Level Meeting on Peacekeeping and Sustaining Peace, Minister Asim will speak at several important events at the United Nations and also deliver statements on behalf of the Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS). The Maldivian Foreign Minister will also hold meetings with several Permanent Representatives of Member States in New York, to discuss issues of mutual interest, especially with regard to the United Nations Security Council.
The Maldives is presently campaigning for support in its bid to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2019-2020.
