MNDF proves Maldivians will always stand up for the country: President

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has always shown proof Maldivians will always stand up for the country. The President made the remark while speaking at the official function held to mark the 126th Anniversary of MNDF.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom highlighted the measures taken by the administration to safeguard the independence and sovereignty and to protect the country by strengthening the MNDF. Moreover, the President commended the assurance of MNDF officers always being ready to sacrifice for and protect the country without any hesitance, as faithful, steadfast, model citizens.
Speaking in this regard, the President highlighted the invaluable services provided in protecting and safeguarding the national sovereignty and expressed his gratitude to MNDF. The importance being aware of modern-day attacks through intellectual warfare, reiterated President. In addition, President Yameen spoke on the damages caused to the Maldivian economy as a result of defamatory actions of a few individuals residing abroad and condemned those actions.
MNDF should not allow any action which poses a threat to the safety and security of the country, Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar said addressing the ceremony. In this regard, Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar noted numerous training programmes and activities are carried out throughout the year to make the defence force capable to cope with the developing economy and threats which comes along with it. Noting that President Yameen has been successful in bringing fast development to the country, Minister Adam Shareef assured MNDF would develop its capacity to tackle the challenges such as threats of terrorism and violent extremism.
No soldier should take personal political ideologies above the oath and duty of them, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam said addressing the ceremony. Such a mindset has helped soldiers attain success in the past, noted Major General Ahmed Shiyam. He expressed commitment that MNDF would always support the government of Maldives in ensuring the safety and security of the country.
At the ceremony, special awards were conferred to personnel who have assisted MNDF over the years. Managing Director of Public Service Media (PSM) Ibrahim Khaleel received the award on behalf of the company.
