Coup-attempt made us realise the value of independence: Minister Saeed

Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed has stated, the attempted coup by the opposition on February 1, made all Maldivians realise the value of independence and sovereignty. He made the statement addressing a special rally held at Veymandoo island of Thaa Atoll.

Addressing the rally, the Minister of Economic Development said, President Yameen assumed office in 2013 with a pledge to do all it takes to protect the true path of Islam and its principles. In this regard, Minister Saeed noted that President Yameen used true Islamic principles to foil the plans to topple the lawfully elected government. He said, President Yameen has become an exemplary leader for all generations on how to establish the principles of Islam and stressed on the importance of maintaining these principles to lead a peaceful, prosperous life.

Addressing the rally, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the biggest project helmed by President Yameen is the project of preserving the religion of Islam and its principles. Minister Muizzu noted that such work is praiseworthy as this development has direct impact all citizens of all ages. Minister Muizzu highlighted that if the opposition comes into power it would have a major negative effect on the Islamic institution build by President Yameen. Continuing on, the Maldivian Housing Minister revealed, in the past four and a half years the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has been successful in bringing other major developments to the country. Minister Muizzu noted that major investments have been made for the development of necessary infrastructure such as the development of harbours, housing units, clean water and sewerage facilities which have been crucial areas which had been neglected by all of the previous governments.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim said the opposition had no role in the developmental projects carried by the administration in Thaa atoll. Minister Thoriq assured President Yameen's commitment to carry out such projects in the future as well. In conclusion, Minister Thoriq assured that the administration would stray beyond the limitations prescribed by the Maldivian Constitution, under any circumstance.
