Economic Minister inaugurates Maamigili International Port

Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed has inaugurated an international port in Maamigili of Alifu Dhaalu atoll.
The government decided to construct an international port in the island due to the many resorts operated in the region and the development projects undertaken in the region. The government also aims to minimise the expenses of transport of goods with the inauguration of the port.
The port will develop the area and create many jobs for youth, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed speaking at the function. Moreover, Economic Minister revealed the government plans to establish more sea ports across the country. Highlighting the port can handle a container capacity of 60,000, Minister Saeed added the capacity of the containers will be increased.
Discussions will be held with the government for concession, adding a bonded warehouse, cold storage, a boat yard and an ice plant will be developed at the port of Mamigili, Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Abdul Razzaq Haleem said addressing the function.
