Ministry of Housing to begin accepting applications for flats from 'Hiya' project in June

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu reveals that the ministry would start accepting applications for housing units under the "Hiya" project from June 3, 2018.

Addressing a special press conference held at Dharubaaruge Convention Centre, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu revealed that application forms for the housing units will be issued until May 31, 2018.

According to Housing Ministry, applications for 12 categories of the social housing units are available under this opportunity. The categories are; 1,000 flats for civil servants, 1,000 flats for married couples between the ages of 18 and 40, 1,000 flats for people originating from Male' city, 1,044 flats for those registered in the Male' Municipality Special Register, 475 flats for doctors and nurses and 625 flats for teachers.

In addition, 500 flats have been allocated for single parents, 200 flats for people with disabilities and their families, 600 flats for officers of MNDF and Maldives Police Service, 300 flats for people who could not pay for the TATA flats developed in capital city and 256 flats for residents evacuated from the west of Maafannu ward to develop spacious housing units.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim launched the biggest housing project in Maldives, which is being implemented in the land reclaimed under Phase 2 of the Hulhumale' development project. The housing project is expected to cater to the housing needs of a population of about 80,000.
