The China Maldives Friendship Bridge is currently under construction and the government expects the project to be completed in the coming months. The 1.39 kilometre long bridge will have two car lanes and separate lanes for bicycles, motorcycles, and pedestrians.
With the development of the China Maldives Friendship Bridge, the government aims to bring numerous changes to the transport network in the region. The government initiated the Male' Ring Road Project, as part of these efforts.
With China Maldives Friendship Bridge is nearing completion, Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has begun bringing necessary changes to the road network in the capital city of Male'. The government, in its efforts to ease transportation to and from Male' city, has designed the Ring Road Project to construct four lanes that mirror the lanes of the bridge.
While Housing Ministry has commenced the first phase of the project, huge trees in the area have been removed along with pavement bricks. Housing Ministry revealed the aim is to complete the project before July 2018.
