Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has expressed concern over the illegal lease land plots by Addu City Council.
Housing Ministry said it has received information Addu City Council has been leasing land plots to citizens of Addu City, noting these plots were leased illegally. The Ministry called on the city council to stop leasing land plots against the law and regulations from Addu city. Furthermore, the Housing Ministry said the council should consult with the authorities before leasing land plots.
The responsibilities of the city council will be stipulated by President following discussions with Cabinet Ministers, according to the latest amendment to the Decentralisation Act of Maldives. The Decentralisation Act states any other responsibilities or work will be done by government ministries.
