Fish exports increases by 77% in April

The value of fish products exported from Maldives in April has increased by 77% compared to April 2017. Fish products valued at over USD 13.4 million were exported in April 2017, whereas the figure was increased to USD 23.7 million in April 2018, according to statistics published by Maldives Customs Service.
Among major exporting countries, Thailand was recorded as highest with 50% of the total exports. Other major exporting destinations include Germany, England, U.S. and France.
Apart from exports, value of imports also showed an increase of 16% in April 2018, when compared to the same month of last year. Goods worth more than USD 209 million were imported during April 2017, whereas the figure was recorded at USD 243 million during last month. Among the top importing countries, UAE recorded the highest with 21%, followed by Singapore 13% and China contributing 12% of the total import value.
With the increase of imports in last month, the total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines was also recorded an increase of 31% compared to that of April 2017. Furthermore, a total of almost USD 17 million was collected as import duty and fees last month, whereas the figure was recorded at almost USD 13 million in April 2017, according to statistics released by Customs.
