Elections Commission of Maldives has revealed the authority received only one complaint so far, regarding the voters list for the 2018 Presidential election. 263,181 Maldivians are eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming election, according to the voters list publicised by the electoral body.
Member of the commission Ahmed Akram stated, the commission has received a complaint about a deceased person's name being included in the list. Elections Commission noted there might be names of those deceased because some families have not given information about family members that deceased in foreign countries to the Department of National Registration.
Spokesperson of the Elections Commission Ahmed Akram also urged the public to check the voters list and file complaints, in order to eliminate any last minute chaos. Furthermore, Akram advised to directly contact the commission if any issues were noticed, rather than posting it on social media, so that the commission can amend the list.
Elections Commission has given until the June 20 to file any complaints regarding the voters list. Furthermore, Elections Commission advised the public to provide support and cooperation, to eliminate any doubt regarding the voters list.
