Maldives and Japan sign grant assistance agreement worth USD 2.7 million

Under the Japanese Economic and Social Development Cooperation Programme, Government of Maldives and Government of Japan signed a grant assistance agreement of USD 2.7 million for the Health Sector of Maldives.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim signed the Exchange of Notes on behalf of the Government of Maldives and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Taro Kono signed the Exchange of Notes on behalf of Japan.

The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan this morning. At the press conference held after the signing ceremony, Minister Asim thanked the Government of Japan for their generous support and continuous assistance to the Government of Maldives. Both ministers noted the two countries as close friends that share a long-standing friendship based on mutual respect and understanding.

Foreign Minister Dr. Asim was accompanied by Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary Bilateral, and Ibrahim Uvais, Ambassador-designate of Maldives to Japan, Ahmed Fazeel, Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Adam Hamid, First Secretary and Mohamed Thahseen, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Maldives in Japan.
