Ministry of Tourism has contracted Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) with the development and managing of the city hotel in Dhoogas in Gan, Addu City. Bank of Ceylon (BOC) granted a loan of over USD 2.5 million for the first phase of the city hotel.
One of the biggest achievements of the project will be the opening of more than 200 job opportunities in the region, revealed Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed while speaking at the ceremony held at Ministry of Tourism to sign the lease agreement. Economic Minister stated the city hotel in Dhoogas in Gan, Addu City will be developed with a swimming pool and a beach.
Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer said the Dhoogas project is a dream of the people of Addu City, adding the project was delayed due to some court proceedings.
Speaking at the ceremony, CEO of MPL Abdul Razzaq Haleem stated the city hotel will be developed in two phases revealing 42 rooms will be launched in the first phase and 78 rooms in the next phase with a total of 120 beds in the hotel. The project will provide job opportunities for locals in the region, he added highlighting the project will also pave way for other small businesses.
Dhoogas was created as a state-run guesthouse during the government of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and several people of Addu had been employed in the guesthouse before it was awarded to MVK Maldives Private Limited. The concept of the Dhoogas project was launched by the current administration in February.
