Test flights will land at Maafaru Airport in July: Tourism Minister

Minister of tourism, Moosa Zameer has stated the airport being developed in Maafaru of Noonu Atoll will be ready for test fights next month.
Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer visited Maafaru to examine the progress of the airport. During his visit to the island, Minister Zameer met with contractors and acquired information about the challenges faced during the project. Even though some challenges were faced due to weather conditions, the project is going rapidly and successfully, according to the Minister. In this regard, Minister stated the runway will be ready to be tarred next week and will be finished by the first week of July. Moreover, Minister Zameer noted the airport will be open for domestic flights by the end of August.
The airport development project in Maafaru costs USD 60 million and is funded by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). The Maldivian government and Abu Dhabi Fund signed the memorandum of understanding to develop the airport in 2017.
