Government marks the completion of beach protection project in Maafushi

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has arrived in Maafushi in Male’ Atoll to mark the completion of beach protection project in the island.
The Maafushi Coastal Protection Project costs over USD 900,000 and was funded by the State Budget. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) began the project work on November of 2015.
Addressing the function held to mark the completion of beach protection project in Maafushi, President Abdulla Yameen called upon the Maldivian youth to be a more responsible citizen, and advocate for peace and national harmony. President Yameen stated the youth must promote the Islamic values and societal values in the country. The President noted that while politicians formulate policies, the actual workforce is comprised of the youth. He also said that the dynamisms of youth is essential for national progress.
Highlighting that the administration aims at expanding the guesthouse business in Maafushi, President Yameen announced the administration's decision to handover the land previously occupied by the Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre to the community. The President underscored that using this land for development projects and to build more guesthouses will create more job opportunities for youth and raise the income of the people.
Meanwhile, Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim said government prioritises developing sustainably rather than focusing on one sector.
During the visit, the President was accompanied by cabinet ministers, parliamentarians and other government officials.
