Criminal Court has sentenced parliamentarian Ahmed Faris Maumoon to 4 months and 24 days in prison after being found guilty of identity fraud.
Ahmed Faris was found guilty of unlawfully using the flag and logo of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) after his removal from the party. However, the closing defence arguments stressed Faris was a member of PPM when he used the party's flag and logo at an opposition press conference.
Faris is also on trial for separate charges on bribery and terrorism and has been in serving time in prison for the past 10 months.
