Maldives participate in UN High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies

Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor has attended first ever United Nations High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of Member States held in New York.
United Nations High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of Member States held at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The conference held on the theme, ‘’Strengthening international cooperation to combat the evolving threat of terrorism" is held from June 28-29. The 2-day conference will provide an opportunity for the United Nations and member states to forge new partnerships to address the complex and transnational threat of terrorism, according to United Nations Information Centre.
Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor is attending the conference on behalf of Maldives as the Director of the National Counter Terrorism Centre of Maldives. The conference will further boost the efforts of the island nation to counter terrorism and violent extremism and serve greater benefit to the country, according to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
At the opening remarks at High-level Conference on Counter-Terrorism, Secretary-General of United Nations António Guterres assured to deliver principled, effective and coordinated counter-terrorism strategies through the capacity building support to Member States and through mobilising much-needed resources stating terrorism is a grave and complex threat.
Conference participants include Member States represented by Heads of Counter-Terrorism agencies, regional organisations, civil society organisations, and the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact Entities.
