President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has congratulated parliamentarian Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for being selected as the presidential candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). A tweet posted by the spokesperson of President's Office confirmed that President Yameen sent a congratulatory letter to Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The President also congratulated Mohamed Solih during his speech at the ceremony held to mark the completion of the beach protection project of Bilehfahi in Shaviyani Atoll. In this regard, the President urged MDP to step forward in ensuring peace in the country and called to begin campaigning to ensure the trust of citizens.
Previously, the government has also welcomed the decision of MDP and extended the invitation to engage in all-party talks.
