State Electric Company of Maldives (STELCO) has signed an agreement with Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) of Pakistan to conduct capacity building programmes. The agreement was signed by Chairman of STELCO Ahmad Aiman and Finance Member at WAPDA Muhammad Ikram Khan. The signing ceremony was attended by the senior officers of STELCO and WAPDA.
Under the agreement, WAPDA will provide training programmes for employees of STELCO, implement staff exchange programmes between the two organisations, participate in experience sharing and institution building activities, conduct exposure visits and facilitate leadership development programmes and activities between the two organisations.
The agreement would assist in power sector infrastructure development of Maldives, the Finance Member of WAPDA stated speaking at the ceremony. He expressed hope both organisations will effectively work together in the areas identified in the agreement. Meanwhile, Chairman of STELCO expressed gratitude for WAPDA for establishing such an agreement. He expressed hope STELCO will benefit from the expertise shared by WAPDA.
The Maldives delegation was on a 6-day visit to Pakistan to learn from the experience of WAPDA and benefit from its technical and human capabilities. During the visit, the delegation visited various training institutes of WAPDA, including Hydel Power Institute Mangla, Administrative Staff College and National Power Control Centre in Islamabad and Engineering Academy in Faisalabad, in addition to visiting the Power Transformer Reclamation Workshop of WAPDA Foundation and Technical Services Group of NTDC in Lahore.
