PSM to publicise policy to provide airtime for presidential candidates

Public Service Media (PSM) has decided to publicise a policy on providing airtime from its channels for presidential candidates and political parties. The policy will be comprised on the rules to provide presidential candidates and political parties with airtime.
Each candidate will be provided with airtime free of charge in accordance with the rules, Deputy Managing Director of PSM Mohamed Ikram Abdul Latheef stated while speaking at the ceremony held to sign a memorandum of understanding with Maldives National University (MNU) to conduct a presidential debate. He further revealed each candidate will also be given the opportunity to purchase airtime.
Noting that PSM is the official state media in the Maldives, Ikram said it is mandated by the Public Service Media Act to deliver authentic news on the efforts of the government to serve the country. Moreover, he assured to provide the candidates and the parties with equal opportunities under the policy compiled by PSM. The policy would be made public within the next 10 days, according to the Deputy Managing Director.
