Agreement signed to improve security of social housing flats

Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has signed with Maldives Police Service to enhance the security of social housing flats in Male' city. The agreement was signed by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and acting Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz.
As part of the agreement, Maldives police has been tasked to install CCTV cameras in Sina Male', Male' Hiyaa and government flats in Villimale' and to ensure the safety and security of the tenants.
The agreement will serve as the first step towards ensuring a safe living for the citizens, housing minister Muizzu said speaking at the ceremony. Previously many complaints from the tenants were neglected, highlighted the housing minister, assuring complaints will be addressed to ensure a better living condition.
Meanwhile, acting commissioner Abdulla Nawaz revealed a better security mechanism will be established in the buildings, adding successful surveys have been concluded by the institution. The number of CCTV cameras and locations for installation have been identified by the institute, said the acting commissioner.
The social housing flats in Male' were previously managed by Male’ City Council. However, to address complains received by the government following the poor management of the flats, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has handed over the responsibility of managing the flats to housing ministry.
