Elections Commission of Maldives has announced opportunity will be open to file candidacy nominations for the upcoming presidential election on July 23.
Opportunity to file candidacy nominations will end on August 4, President of Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef revealed speaking at a press conference. Ahmed Shareef revealed the decision was made after receiving legal advice following the doubts which arose regarding the end of the presidential term. Moreover, Shareef said the presidential term will end on November 17 and the duration of filing candidacy nominations was decided after holding discussions with the Attorney General's Office.
The commission is currently proceeding to finalise the voters list and voting stations. The electoral body has announced the presidential election will be held on September 23.
