Elections Commission of Maldives has revised its previous decision to place ballot boxes in resorts where more than 250 Maldivian staff reside, to address concerns raised by the political parties.
In a tweet, elections commission announced its decision to lower the threshold to 100 registered voters, by allowing local employees living in resorts, to re-register at such resorts or wherever they would like to cast their vote on the day of the election. Therefore, the commission announced it will establish polling stations in resorts that have 100 registered voters.
The electoral body expects there would be a significant increase in the number of ballot boxes accordingly. The decision was made after reviewing the situation, following many complaints of political parties, revealed the commission. The electoral body added it was also decided to ease the voting process and to ensure as many individuals are participating in voting.
