Nasheed admits to false comments citing EU

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has publicly admitted to spreading false comments about European Union (EU) taking action against President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, certain cabinet ministers and other key government figures.
Previously in a tweet, former President Mohamed Nasheed stated the EU has taken targeted action against President Abdulla Yameen, Supreme Court judges, certain cabinet ministers, military officials, and the President of Elections Commission; calling the public to denounce President Yameen, which he later backtracked citing he made an error earlier in his tweet by declaring that the EU has taken action against President Yameen and his administration. Nasheed's tweet read that he strongly believes EU should take action against the current administration if things remain unchanged.
However, the EU has not taken any action against the Maldives although a framework on targeted actions against the Maldives and ordered all-party talks with the opposition was adopted. While the current administration has been inviting the opposition for all-party talks, Nasheed has previously taken to Twitter stating if President Yameen does not relent, EU sanctions on Maldives will have deplorable effects on the nation. With the presidential election approaching, the current administration has invited the opposition for all-party talks on twelve different occasions.
President Yameen has urged all political parties to participate in the talks without any pre-arranged conditions, citing the importance of democratic discussion in settling political unrest in the country.
