Maldivian Thalassaemia Society has concluded the second nationwide conference for thalassaemia patients. The participants were awarded certificates upon completion of the conference by the Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim at a ceremony held at Maagiri Hotel.
The second National Thalassaemia Conference for patients was commenced with over 60 thalassaemics from all over the Maldives. The main aim of the two-day conference initiated by the society was to provide thalassaemia patients with the opportunity to know more about the disorder, treatment, best practices and also create a platform to network and share experiences. The conference held for thalassaemic patients of over 12 years was attended by 18 patients from atolls.
Moreover, thalassaemia expert Maria Hadjidemetriou and doctors disseminated information to patients about thalassaemia. The nationwide conference has eased the treatment process and has resulted in positive behavioural changes of patients, according to Maldivian Thalassaemia Society.
Statistics reveal there are 632 thalassaemia patients in Maldives.
