Elections commission rejects documents to establish new party

Elections Commission of Maldives has rejected the documents submitted to establish a new political party in Maldives. Elections Commission, in a tweet, confirmed it has decided to reject the application to establish ‘Maldives Labor and Social Justice Party’.

Elections Commission received the documents to establish the new political party on July 15,2018. The electoral body did not reveal any further details.

In April, the commission received applications to form two political parties, which were rejected as the necessary paperwork were not completed.

The six political parties currently registered in Maldives are; Progressive Party of Maldives, Maldivian Democratic Party, Jumhooree Party, Maldives Development Alliance, Adhaalath Party and Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party.
