The government of Maldives contracts Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) with the land reclamation project of Huraa in Kaafu Atoll. The agreement was signed by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and CEO of MTCC Ibrahim Ziyath. MTCC will reclaim an area of 10 hectares as part of the USD 1.9 million project.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Housing Minister Mohamed Muizzu revealed the project must be completed within 6 months, adding an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the area is currently underway. The housing minister expressed hope to solve lack of living space and land to begin new business ventures in the island will be solved upon completion of the project. Meanwhile, CEO Ibrahim Ziyath revealed MTCC will deploy its trailing suction hopper dredger for the project.
A total of 1,064 people are registered in the island, according to the Island Council of Huraa.
