Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced reclamation of land needed to develop the airport in Hoarafushi of Haa Alifu Atoll. The airport is to be developed by reclaiming 16 hectares of land from Maafinolhu, located near Hoarafushi.
Speaking with PSM News, General Manager of MTCC Mohamed Husham said the hopper dredger and cutter dredger will be utilised for the project. He expressed hope to conclude the project within 203 days.
As part of the land reclamation project of Maafinolhu, revetments of 888 metres will also be established, according to MTCC. MTCC stated USD 52 million will be spent from the state budget for the airport development project.
