Elections commission receives another candidacy nomination

Elections Commission of Maldives has accepted the submission of another candidacy nomination for the upcoming presidential election. The candidacy nomination of Hussain Naseer to run for the election, as an independent candidate, has been accepted, according to the elections commission.
Spokesperson and member of the commission Ahmed Akram stated Hussain Naseer has submitted the documents along with his nomination for Sheikh Nasrulla Musthafa as his running mate, adding the commission will reveal its decision on the candidacy within the next 48 hours. Hussain Naseer previously has on no occasion announced his interest to run as a candidate for the presidential election.
In addition to Hussain Naseer, candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also submitted his candidacy nomination which was approved by the elections commission. President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has also announced he will run for a second term in office.
Moreover, former Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer and former Vice President of Local Government Authority (LGA) Shujau Hussain have announced interest to compete in the presidential election scheduled to be held on September 23.
