President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has submitted his candidacy nomination to contest in the upcoming presidential election.
On behalf of the president, the necessary paperwork were submitted by deputy leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer. The submission of the nominated running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed was also accepted by the Elections Commission of Maldives. The ruling party, PPM, officially handed over the presidential ticket to President Yameen on July 29.
So far, three candidacy nominations have been accepted, according to elections commission. The presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 23.
