UN Assistant Secretary General calls on the President

Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs at the United Nations Miroslav Jenča has paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
During the call held at the President’s Office, President Abdulla Yameen conveyed greetings and good wishes of the government and the people of the Maldives to the Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres and reiterated the firm commitment of the government in maintaining its close engagement with the United Nations. Speaking about the upcoming presidential election, the president conveyed assurances the government is actively taking all the necessary measures to ensure a free and fair election.
The Assistant Secretary General thanked the government of Maldives for the invitation extended to visit the Maldives and praised the government on the remarkable economic development achieved under the leadership of President Yameen. Noting with appreciation that he has deemed the country calm and peaceful during his visit, the Assistant Secretary General expressed the readiness of the United Nations to work together with the Elections Commission of Maldives in ensuring a free and fair election.
