Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has stated Aasandha health insurance scheme covering the expenses for open heart surgery and bypass surgery proves the efficiency of the national health insurance scheme.
Addressing the ceremony held at ADK Hospital to celebrate the success of the first ever bypass surgery conducted in Maldives, Health Minister Abdulla Nazim congratulated the hospital on the achievement. Moreover, during his speech, the health minister highlighted the success of the Aasandha insurance scheme, noting such an efficient scheme established in a small nation such as Maldives eases the lives of citizens.
Meanwhile, Chairman of ADK Ahmed Nashid noted the national insurance scheme covers a large portion for open heart surgery and bypass surgery from the hospital. Over USD 6,000 cost for an open heart surgery and USD 5,000 cost for a bypass surgeries, with 65% of the expenses are covered by Aasandha health insurance scheme, according ADK.
During the ceremony, the medical team which conducted the first ever bypass surgery was presented a letter of appreciation while the medical team shared their experience with the minister. ADK conducted the first ever bypass surgery on August 8 and the first ever open heart surgery was successfully completed on August 11.
