Our greatest obligation is to safeguard the Islamic faith: President

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has underscored the most important obligation for the Maldivian people is guarding Islamic faith, rather than putting forth individual civil rights.
Addressing the function organised by Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) at Nilandhoo in Faafu Atoll, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom stated efforts of foreign parties to meddle in internal affairs will never be welcomed, affirming there was no need to seek foreign involvement to achieve better prospects for the people. Continuing on, President Yameen called upon everyone to put forth national responsibility to maintain peace and prosperity in the nation. In his speech, the president shed light on the mega development projects conducted in the country.
The president further noted the current administration had conducted land reclamation projects that equals to 20 new medium-sized islands, within the five-year term. The president also briefed that strategies behind bringing mega investments is to ensure human resource development and provide job opportunities for the youth.
Meanwhile, during his speech, the president also revealed the projects in the pipeline for the betterment of the citizens of Faafu Atoll. In this regard, the president underlined there is still hope for the 10 billion US dollar mega project to be conducted in Faafu Atoll, which will transform the atoll and boost the economy in the region. During the address, he criticised the opposition widely for obstructing the development projects initiated by the government.
The project to be conducted by the royal family of Saudi Arabia in Faafu Atoll was called off following criticism from the opposition, despite the project, if conducted, would be the largest development project to ever be set in motion in the Maldives.
