MDP challenges Islam and Maldivian values: President

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated ideology of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) remains the only ideology that challenges Islam and the nationalism of Maldives.
The ideology in Kurendhoo mirrors that of the current administration, the president said addressing the citizens of Kurendhoo, as part of his two-day tour of Lhaviyani Atoll, stating President recognises the overwhelming support in the island for the current administration.
Despite Kurendhoo being described as an island that supports the opposition, the president noted administration of MDP spent merely USD 100,000 for the development of the island. However, President Yameen highlighted the current administration has spent around USD 6 million for the development of the island.
The president noted this is proof enough for residents of Kurendhoo to support the ideology of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). He also attributed the lacklustre development seen in Kurendhoo to the negligence of the MDP administration during their tenure. ATM services would be inaugurated in the island noted President vowing to deliver a permanent solution to the issue of erosion via shore protection projects which would be implemented in additional areas of the island.
Criticising MDP, President Yameen noted due to the opposition's consistent efforts to defame the country, foreign parties are threatening action against Maldives. In this regard, the president said MDP remains the only ideology that obstructs development and national values. He called on the citizens of Kurendhoo to vote for the current administration if they wish to maintain Maldivian values in the country.
Furthermore, during his visit to Kurendhoo, President Yameen also attended the ceremony held to mark the completion of the shore protection project in the island. During the ceremony, the president unveiled the monument placed to commemorate the completion of the project.
