Corruption case submitted against president to influence election: Spokesperson

Spokesperson of President's Office Ibrahim Muaz Ali has stated submitting a corruption case against President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom was an act to influence the presidential election.
In a tweet, the spokesperson expressed Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) held a press conference and made the announcement to create chaos and mislead citizens into believing the president could be corrupt. Opposition submitted a case to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to negatively influence the presidential election scheduled for September 23, according to the spokesperson. He described the act as more serious than political allegations and defamation.
In a press conference, the main opposition party, MDP, made serious corruption allegations against the president. Following the allegations, President Yameen has decided to file a case against MDP under the Anti-defamation Law and General Elections Act.
